WINDOWS DISASTER RECOVERY/HIGH AVAILABILITY SOLUTIONS

On this page we feature a number of products, all leaders in their market place. In the final analysis, customers' DR/HA requirements are usually met by a customised solution, and we offer individual Service Level Agreements (SLAs) to meet individual circumstances. CVSI also offers both DR and HA services as a Managed Service.

Disaster Recovery is the usual starting point for customers already realising the value of their data assets, and need to react immediately in response to a disaster.

DISASTER RECOVERY (DR)

Desktops/Mobiles

Lenovo Rescue and Recovery (formerly IBM Rescue and Recovery) is a one button recovery and restore solution that includes a set of self recovery tools to help users diagnose, get help and recover from system crashes quickly, even if the primary operating system will not boot and the user cannot contact the support team. It's free with selected Lenovo ThinkPads (notebooks), but is also available for purchase for any PC.

ARCserve Backup for Laptops & Desktops is a reliable, user transparent backup and restore solution for desktop, mobile and remote computers. Administrators can automate the scheduling of backups, and these run in the background while users continue working, even if the user is not connected to the network. The client includes local point-in-time file restore from multiple revisions, agent to backup open files, data encryption, low bandwidth optimization and checkpoint restart. A low cost product which can offer immediate payback.

ARCserve Backup Disaster Recovery Option. Part of the ARCserve backup suite of software, this modestly priced option provides a fast and easy method of recovering data in the event of a complete server failure, without the time-consuming need for reinstalling the operating system. This CD-based disaster recovery is supported in Windows NT/2000/XP/2003.

CONTINUOUS DATA PROTECTION (CDP)

CDP sits somewhere between DR and HA, but be careful as there are two basic types of product in the marketplace; "True CDP" (capturing every data write, supporting recovery to any point in time), and "Near CDP" (changes transmitted periodically, specific recovery points). XOsoft, recently acquired by CA, falls into the latter category, providing a comprehensive undo capability that allows instant roll back of damaged data resources to a previous, valid state.Product supports one-to-one and several-to-one environments.

Our recommendation is Double-Take, which boasts a customer list including Microsoft, Dell and Hewlett-Packard.

Double-Take protects data and applications such as Exchange, SQL Server, SharePoint, Oracle and more, enabling customers to replicate and protect business-critical data that resides throughout their enterprise.

Double-Take goes beyond periodic backup to provide accessible and affordable data protection, ensuring minimal data loss, and enable immediate recovery from any disaster or system outage. Double-Take utilizes patented replication and failover technology that continuously captures byte-level changes as they happen and replicates those changes to one or more target servers at any location, locally or at a recovery site miles away. (Looking for a site? This could be CVSIs offices). Double-Take is suitable for business-critical applications such as Exchange, SQL Server, Oracle and SharePoint.
